Pay-as-you-feel food waste cafe opens
Since opening in Leeds in December 2013, The Real Junk Food Project has fed more than 5,000 people and intercepted over 15 tonnes of “waste” food.
Now it has come to the Crofters Rights in Stokes Croft as The Bristol Skipchen, once again hoping to eliminate food waste by intercepting food that would have gone in the bin, and serving it to anyone and everyone on a pay-as-you-feel basis.
“Today went so well, we got to chat to loads of people and fed lots too,” said The Real Junk Food Project co-director Sam Joseph after the first day of Bristol Skipschen on Monday.
is needed now More than ever
“We have shown that our model works in Leeds and I hope Bristol brings something different to the mix.
“It is crazy that so many people are struggling to afford good food as we bin millions of tonnes of it a year. We are here to challenge the current system that has led to this absurd state of affairs.
“Let’s just hope we get a permanent venue sorted in time for Bristol 2015 European Green Capital.”
