Josh Eggleton to take over Kensington Arms
The owner of the Michelin-starred Pony & Trap in Chew Magna is joining forces with the former managing director of Butcombe Brewery to buy the Kensington Arms in Redland.
Josh Eggleton, Guy Newell and their families will take over the running of the pub, located only a few hundred yards from Bristol’s foodie hotspot of Chandos Road.
The pair promise that the Kenny, as it is known locally, will benefit from the brewery expertise of Newell and the culinary expertise of Eggleton, also the co-owner of Salt & Malt overlooking Chew Valley Lake and who is due to open his latest venture Chicken Shed within the shipping containers of Cargo in Wapping Wharf later this month.
is needed now More than ever
“The Kensington Arms already has a great reputation for food and we’ll be adding to that by taking it back to its roots and emphasising its traditional British pub cuisines, sourced well, with daily changing specials,” Eggleton told Bristol24/7.
Newell added: “My wife Becky and I fell in love with the Kenny the first time we visited, and were naturally keen to join Josh in this exciting new venture.
“Our intention is to make sure the beer, wine, spirits, tea and coffee offering is every bit as good as the food and I can guarantee a great pint of Butcombe Bitter!”
The current team will stay at the Kenny, where they will be joined by new general manager Ali Yuill from Salt & Malt and The Pig Near Bath, and head chef Luke Hawkins, formerly at Source and the Pony & Trap.
The pub will be undergoing a short refurbishment, including audio visual equipment and a new bar being installed in one of the two upstairs function rooms.
