Shop Brislington trail

By Helen Martin  Wednesday Mar 18, 2015

This month, local shops and residents in Brislington have teamed up to create the Shop Brislington trail, an initiative promoting the independent businesses in the area and encouraging people to shop locally.

The Brislington Community Partnership (BCP) has received a grant from Bristol City Council’s Active Neighbourhood Transport Grant scheme to put on a community-led shopping trail and get people shopping on foot and supporting their local independent traders.

Running until March 31 and including 49 local independent businesses, the trail includes a map hand drawn by local artist Philppa Thomas and designers from Oak Design Studio. The map shows Brislington’s three main shopping streets: Brislington Hill; Wick Road; and Sandy Park Road, all of which are within easy walking and cycling distance from each other.

Madeleine from the Little Kitchen Cookery School said: “We are really excited to be part of this campaign; as a new business we chose to be in Brislington, as we feel like it’s on the up. Lots of new and exciting businesses have opened in the area over the last few years and the mix of these, and the more traditional high street shops, makes it a great place to do your shopping.”

Brislington offers unique shops including one of only two stores in the city dedicated to home-brewing, the only sewing machine repair shop in Bristol, a haberdashers, which also offers sewing workshops, a cookery school, a shop selling a vast selection of beads and semi-precious gems and a specialist knitting shop.

Kirsten from Make and Do said “This is a brilliant place to be; Sandy Park Road is a friendly, old-fashioned high-street; with all the other craft businesses such as Get Knitted and Shiney Rocks nearby, and Bristol’s only sewing machine repair shop right opposite, it’s becoming a bit of a destination for makers and doers!”

As part of the trail Bristol Pound (£B) will be holding a sign up event, 4pm-9pm, tomorrow (Thursday, March 19) at Cafe Grounded. The restaurant is offering and 12 inch pizza for the discounted rate of £B10 to anyone who signs up on the evening.
