Eat breakfast with gorillas at new hotel zoo

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Oct 21, 2015

Ever wanted to have breakfast with gorillas? Us neither. But for all those who do fancy themselves as a bit of a Sigourney Weaver, there is now a new hotel inside Bristol Zoo.

The Lodge has a balcony overlooking the Zona Brazil enclosure where you will find grazing tapirs, dainty agouti and the world’s largest living rodent – the capybara.

Bristol Zoo describe The Lodge as “a secluded luxury lodge with a hint of safari”

If you’re lucky you might see a pygmy hippo or hear a warty pig nearby. Whatever you see while popping the cork of an evening bottle of Champagne, you’re in for a treat in the morning.

After a four-course dinner the night before you will have your breakfast laid out at the Gorilla House. Don’t worry though, there’s toughened glass between the gorillas eating their fry up and you gnawing on bamboo shoots.

A night at The Lodge – described by the zoo as “a secluded luxury lodge with a hint of safari” – also includes a behind-the scenes twilight tour of the zoo with an expert member of staff.

The Lodge can accommodate up to four adults and two children and prices range from £750 to £1,050 for all the rooms together.

The zoo’s Owain Cassidy said: “We are inviting people to come and create some amazing memories during their stay at The Lodge.

“The real adventure begins when guests are taken behind-the-scenes to meet some of our best loved animals when everyone else has gone home.

“Guests can watch the sunset and rise over the Zoo in this intimate experience offering exclusive access to the zoo.”
