Double celebration at St George’s
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment helped mark a double celebration at St George’s.
The venue on Great George Street is celebrating 40 years of live music and 30 years of evening concerts.
Built between 1821 and 1823, St George’s was designed by Sir Robert Smirke – architect of the British Museum – as a church for the growing parish.
is needed now More than ever
After the congregation dwindled, the building was converted into a venue which now attracts some of the best classical, folk, jazz, and spoken word artists, as well as hosting Bristol-based orchestras, musicians and choirs.
The first stage of archaeological works are now underway for a transformed St George’s due to open in September 2017 with a new extension built within the surrounding garden connected to the original building.
