Jailed Becky Watts killers to appeal

By Louis Emanuel  Thursday Dec 10, 2015

The killers of Bristol teenager Becky Watts are applying to appeal against their convictions and sentences.

Nathan Matthews and Shauna Hoare, who were jailed last month for murder and manslaughter respectively, have applied for leave to the Court of Appeal.

Watts was killed in her St George home in a botched kidnapp earlier this year. Matthews admitted suffocating her and taking her body back to his and Hoare’s home in Barton Hill before dismembering it and hiding it in a shed.

Hoare admitted being in Watts’ home at the time of the killing, but denied being involved.

Matthews, 28, Watts’ step-brother, was given life in prison with a minimum term of 33 years while Hoare, 21, was sentenced to 17 years.

James Ireland, 23, and Donovan Demetrius, 29, were acquitted of assisting an offender.

Donovan’s brother Karl Demitrius, 29, and his partner Jaydene Parsons, 23, both of Barton Court, admitted assisting an offender.

Matthews’ and Hoare’s application to appeal has been sent by Bristol Crown Court to the Court of Appeal where a decision will be taken on whether or not to grant an appeal.
