Final piece of harbour jigsaw almost complete
More details have been released about the development of the last remaining brownfield site around Bristol’s Floating Harbour.
New proposals to regenerate the former gasworks site at Brandon Yard on Anchor Road include 60 flats, restoration of the listed buildings on the site and improvements to the Harbourside Walk opposite the ss Great Britain.
The current stone buildings will be renovated, with more homes located in a new block on the Anchor Road side of the site.
is needed now More than ever
Artists impressions of the site will be revealed at a public exhibition later this month.
Markham Hanson, managing director of site owners Square Bay, said: “We are very pleased to be working with Bristol’s Acorn Property Group to bring forward deliverable proposals to ensure the long-overdue regeneration of this important, iconic site.
“While the site presents unique challenges in terms of the restoration of the West Purifier House and Engine House, both of which are in an advanced state of ruin, we are excited at the prospect of ensuring the future of these iconic reminders of Bristol’s industrial heritage.
“High quality homes at this desirable location will deliver additional capacity to Bristol’s housing supply on a site that had previously been earmarked for offices.”
Brandon Yard is the site’s historic name, forming part of what was the Canon’s Marsh gasworks. The gasworks closed in the 1960s and the site has been derelict since the 1970s.
It was previously owned by the Soil Association who had planned to move their headquarters to the site, but they sold the land earlier this year.
A public exhibition takes place on September 13 between 3pm and 7.30pm at the Harbourside Pavilion, located above Spitfire restaurant at 1 Hannover Quay.
