Last known steps of DJ Derek to be traced

By Louis Emanuel  Wednesday Jul 29, 2015

The family of missing DJ Derek are to retrace his final steps from the Commercial Rooms pub, where he was last seen on July 10.

Police said there have been 10 unconfirmed sightings since friends of the 73-year-old Bristol reggae and club legend last saw him in Corn Street.

He is known to have left the Commercial Rooms, a Weatherspoons bar where he is a regular, complaining of headaches.

Police told Bristol24/7 he was due to catch the number five bus back to his home in St Paul’s, but never reached the bus.

Officers are now working through hours of CCTV in an attempt to track his last movements, while they also follow up all unconfirmed sightings which have come in since the alarm was raised last Thursday.

Acting detective inspector Clare Hargreaves said police are “very concerned”, but are “remaining very positive”.

She added: “He has never been reported missing before. It is very out of character because he is someone who keeps in contact with his family.

“If you know him and you have seen him since July 10, then we are urging you to get in touch through 101.”

DJ Dereks’ missing person status was updated to “severe” when police found he had not used his bank account since the beginning of the month.

Family and friends, who have already launched a poster campaign around the city, will be retracing his steps from the Commercial Rooms at 11am on Thursday.
