A woman has been seriously injured after being run over by a police car in Bristol.

The road was closed overnight for further investigations, but has now been re-opened.

Because an Avon and Somerset police vehicle was involved, the force’s professional standards department has been advised. The incident has also been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and a knife has been seized.

A police spokesman said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time who may have information to help our investigation.

“Anyone able to help is asked to contact the force’s collision investigation unit on the force  number 101.”
