Labour’s regional office said no official shortlist will be drawn up until a interviews had taken place. But Labour sources confirmed the five prospective candidates whose names were circulated on Twitter.

Interviews are thought to be taking place on Friday, May 29. A number of hustings events will follow before Bristol Labour Party members vote on a candidate.

Labour are likely to provide the biggest competition to incumbent Ferguson who is aiming for a second term in office.

No other party has announced its candidates yet. The mayoral election will take place next May alongside elections for all other city council seats.
