Video: Wolf Hall tours at Bristol Cathedral
Wolf Hall is one of the most acclaimed BBC dramas of recent years and Bristol Cathedral had a starring role in the production.
Now the cathedral has launched a tour of the key locations used in the filming and Wolf Hall fever has seen unprecedented demand for tickets.
is needed now More than ever
For a week last summer the cathedral was transformed into Westminster Abbey, the home of the Duke of Norfolk and the St Paul’s Cross outdoor pulpit.
It also featured in pivotal scenes including an altercation between Henry VIII and Thomas Cromwell and the scene of the funeral of Catherine of Aragon.
Key scenes starring Mark Rylance, Damian Lewis and Claire Foy were filmed in the cathedral and it features in five of the six episodes.
The series aired earlier this year to widespread acclaim and now the Wolf Hall tour of the key locations has been launched by Bristol Cathedral and Bristol Libraries.
Hilary Mantel’s award-winning book will be also brought to life in a special live tour where actor David Collins will read out key passages from the book in the spots throughout the cathedral where they were filmed.
The first performance on Thursday, September 3 sold out in less than a week and an extra performance date on Friday, September 4 has been added.
Andrew Cox from Bristol Libraries said: “We know how much readers love Hilary Mantel’s excellent novels so we’re very excited to offer this opportunity to explore the books – and the Cathedral – in a whole new way.”
Throughout August, the cathedral is also hosting an exhibition of Wolf Hall production photos.
