My Bristol favourites: Graham Faragher
Graham Faragher of Bertha’s Pizza worked as an engineer for the McLaren F1 team before a stint in the City. Along with his wife Kate, his business is now sourdough pizzas, which they make in an oven built into the back of a canary yellow Land Rover Defender. Find Graham at food and drink events across Bristol, including the Temple Quay market on the first and third Thursday of the month. 2015 could also be the year that Bertha’s Pizzas find permanent premises.
Here are Graham’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Bristol & Bath Railway Path
“The cycle superhighway Boris Johnson could only dream of. With my favourite bakery, Hart’s, at one end, and Bath and beyond at the other, this is both my journey into town and escape route to the countryside. On our first trip to Bristol we cycled from the city centre, camped beyond Bath and swam in Claverton Weir. I’m not sure it gets much better.”
is needed now More than ever
Birch
“If this was in London it’d be swarmed with critics and a nightmare to get a table. Tucked on the corner of Birch Road and Raleigh Road in Southville you not only get a seat at Birch but the benefit of the stunning local produce which stars on their menu. We had one of our top meals of last year there.”
Extract Coffee
“We got chatting to them about our respective Bertha’s: our oven and their newest roaster. Extract Coffee are a passionate, knowledgeable team producing some of the best coffee in the UK. Look out for their sheet metal sign around town, it’s a hallmark of quality and good indicator that the venue hanging it is worth trying out. I’m currently petitioning Extract to construct a mezzanine coffee shop overlooking their roastery floor in St Werburgh’s. Get in touch if you’d like to sign up.”
Corks (of anywhere)
“Be it Cotham or North Street, Corks really know their stuff. I always concede they know far more than me and ask for a recommendation. They’ve never let me down.”
No. 12 Easton
“Chris and his cafe-cum-deli deserve a fair amount of credit for our settling in Easton. He’s also a good mate and partner in crime in our #GreatBristolBaconOff series of meat curing. Keep an eye out for No. 12 Easton‘s evening special events such as the latest smoked meat and beer – you’ll thank me.”
