My Bristol favourites: Vashti Seth

By Bristol24/7  Tuesday Aug 11, 2015

Vashti Seth is the CEO and Founder of Bristol based microfinance charity Deki. Through Deki, you can lend anything from £10 to an entrepreneur in the developing world to help them start their own sustainable business and break the poverty cycle. 100 per cent of all money lent goes directly to the chosen entrepreneur and lenders are paid back over the next 12 months. Even a small initial investment can help a number of people and their family to raise themselves out of poverty.

Here are Vashti’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Cafe Mulino

Cafe Mulino is a cool underground pop up restaurant in St Werburgh’s that I love. You can only book a reservation through Facebook if you know where to look. I’m a bit of a foodie and they without a doubt do the best three course dinner in Bristol (and a bargain at £25!) – that’s quite a statement from the wife of a chef.”

Stokes Croft

“This is where Deki’s offices are based. Stokes Croft is never boring – I sit in a bay window where I can view the whole of the street and the view is different everyday with its ever-changing graffiti.”

Oldbury Court Estate

“This is my favourite place to take my two children. There’s a beautiful walk along the river and a fantastic play park in the centre of the estate”

Flo-Jo Boutique

“This is what makes Bristol and the Gloucester Road so great. Flo-Jo Boutique inspires me to want to make more time for sewing. They do everything from kids sewing classes to knicker making workshops’for hen do’s. In Flo-Jo there’s a little bit of something for everyone.”

The Engine Shed

“Housed in Brunel’s original station, The Engine Shed is a great place for people to meet, work and collaborate. From September 17 for six weeks, Deki have teamed up with Microsoft to have an interactive installation inspired by the story of Halima Namutosi, a South Sudanese refugee. It will show how entrepreneurs in the developing world are working their way out of poverty by being connected with lenders in the UK and overseas through the Deki website.”
