‘Why I’m voting for Marvin Rees’

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday May 4, 2016

Suad Abduhalli

I’m voting for Marvin because I believe we need a different kind of politics in Bristol, the type that is more in tune with today’s realities for hard-working families.

Having worked with Marvin I believe he is a strong role model for young Bristolians. He is a man with strong morals and integrity with a good understanding of everyday challenges.

I’ll be voting Marvin for mayor because I believe Marvin’s heart, desire, passion and drive is for Bristol – especially being born, raised and still living and serving communities here.

The mayoral election is not a business opportunity or venture for Marvin, but a passionate fulfillment. As such, I have every confidence that he will do his utmost to provide better services important to me (health, housing, education, and voluntary sections) across the city, to fully ensure that not one of Bristol’s constituents is left behind, and all are served; not just the elite.

Furthermore, I have faith that Marvin will fulfill his duties to Bristol and keep to his promises as set out in his manifesto, and achieve enduring change. Marvin will be a mayor you can trust, for the whole of Bristol.

Marvin embodies so much of what brought me to Bristol – the energy, diverse and eclectic aspirations, the passion to support the less-favoured.

His hopes and aspirations for Bristol chime strongly with mine. His focused ambition is on the real needs and hopes of Bristolians young and old, new and established, and particularly the disadvantaged; indivisuals and businesses at every economic level.

He listens, he hears, he understands and he will act – in our interests. He has a big heart, and we’re in it. I believe Marvin will be the ideal mayor to lead us forward into the next level of regeneration.

Marvin Rees can definitely count on my vote. He strikes me as an honest, dedicated person who genuinely cares about the people of Bristol and the future of the city.

I respect him a great deal and have been very heartened to see him at several events about issues close to my heart, such as the Refugees Welcome rally earlier this year. With an inside knowledge of Bristol I believe he is best equipped to tackle the major issues affecting our city like homelessness and the social housing shortage.

I’ve been a Bristol firefighter for more than twenty years and I believe we need a mayor who will stand up for our city and put the needs of people first.

Marvin Rees has pledged to fight against dangerous cuts to the fire service and place public safety ahead of budget cuts. He understands our city, the people in it and the services we all need – that’s why I’m voting for him for mayor.
