The NT revives Peter Shaffer‘s multiple Olivier and Tony award winning play, which was first staged in 1979 and later adapted to become an Oscar-winning film.

Adam Gillen is cast as the rowdy, prodigiously talented young Mozart, whose arrival in Vienna provokes an outburst of jealousy from court composer Salieri (Lucian Msamati – the first black actor to play Iago in an RSC production of Othello. Couch potatoes will also recognise him from Game of Thrones, Luther and Doctor Who). Orchestral accompaniment is supplied by the Southbank Sinfonia.
