Applications open for Community Pollinator Fund

By Valentina Hernández Gómez  Wednesday Mar 1, 2023

The second round of funding is now open for the The Pollinator Fund.

Eligible organisations, depending on their size, can apply for grants between £1,000 – £9,999, and £10,000 – £100,000.

The fund is part of the West of England’s Combined Authority (WECA) ‘Bee Bold Awards’ which seek to increase the abundance of wildlife by 2030.

Metro mayor Dan Norris expressed his pride in the programme, as well as the importance of investing in bees.

“I’ve made bees a priority as they’re vital to making sure our crops are pollinated and we have food to eat year-round” he said.

“Whether it is planting blooming wildflower meadows in parks or installing bee-friendly garden green roofs on community buildings, my message to all West of England pollinator pal groups is – get applying.”

The application period is open from February 22 to April 19. Proposals can to be from any type of project located in the west of England, including Bristol, North East Somerset, Bath, and South Gloucestershire.

The successful community-led projects from the first round of funding were awarded their grants in December 2022. The winners will provide, according to WECA, 224,000 square metres of habitats for pollinators.

Among the winners are Bristol-based projects such as Heart of BS13, Staple Hill Community Hub, and, Hotels and District Allotments Association Limited.

If you’re a volunteer, NGO, charity or community group and you’re interested about applying, you can find application packs and guidance on WECA’s website.
