Bristol’s pedal-powered plumber

By Maddie Clarke-Newell  Thursday Sep 8, 2022

Even before quitting their job fitting bathrooms, Benedict Sansam knew that the best way to get around Bristol is by bike.

So when they become a self-employed plumber, the business could only ever be based on two wheels.

Benedict’s pedal-powered plumbing business has since grown almost as fast as it takes them to cycle down Park Street with panniers laden with the tools of the trade.

“When I quit my job fitting bathrooms to become self-employed there weren’t any cycling plumbers in the UK that I knew of,” the Easton-based plumber told Bristol24/7.

“But I wanted to do something to address climate change and Bristol’s air pollution.”

There are many benefits of bike-powered businesses. Research suggest that it can make the business owner have a more positive outlook towards attitude and better customer service.

Benedict hopes to continue to promote a different way of travelling for work they are joined on the streets of Bristol by a growing number of cargo bikes.

The best way to get around Bristol is on two wheels, especially for Benedict the pedal-powered plumber.
