Bristol University announced as nominator for prestigious climate award

By Valentina Hernández Gómez  Tuesday Jan 17, 2023

The University of Bristol has been now announced as one of the official nominators for this year’s edition of the prestigious Earthshot Prize.

Bristol has been selected out of hundreds of international nominators, as a result of its commitment to climate research and its ability to identify the most impactful solutions across all sectors, from grassroots organisations to business companies.

Professor Guy Howard, director of the Cabot Institute for the Environment at Bristol, said: “We urgently need innovative, large-scale solutions to help meet the ambitious but pressing Earthshot goals. These are to: protect and restore nature, clean our air, revive our oceans, build a waste-free world, and fix our climate.”

The Earthshot Prize was launched in 2020, and in this new edition, they will keep considering solutions to make tangible progress toward the greatest environmental challenges.

The prize welcomes solutions that might be developed in partnership with organisations or individuals in the community, business, or other sectors.

“Ideas with amazing potential often start small and everyone is welcome to get involved. There’s still time to submit an idea and we look forward to reviewing the proposals which could make a real difference in saving our planet,” added Howard.

If you would like the University of Bristol to consider nominating your work, you are invited to send a one-page internal expression of interest explaining your solution and why it meets the expectations of the Earthshot Prize, to pa-pvcresearch@bristol.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday, January 20.

Those selected will be invited to work with Bristol University to develop the nomination, for submission by January 31.
