West Bristol Arts Trail Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October
Approximately 100 local artists in Clifton, Clifton Wood, Redland and Hotwells open their homes and studios to the general public on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October. There are also some “public” venues such as hotels, schools or churches.
As with the majority of Bristol’s art trails the artists are usually present and happy to chat if visitors wish to discuss their work or perhaps commission something special. Prices are normally very affordable, as there is no commission to be paid as the public can buy direct from the artist. However, there is no pressure to purchase anything people can simply spend a delightful weekend browsing some outstanding art.
The organisers of the trail recommend using public transport or bicycle to visit the Trail, as car-parking is notoriously scarce.
View Art Gallery First Impressions Prize Winners Announced
Congratulations to Lizzy Drury and Kate Williamson who were awarded first and second prize at the First Impressions 2014 student art exhibition at the View Art Gallery on Hotwells Road.
A packed gallery admired 50 pieces of impressive art created by students from the South West and further afield. The art work for the exhibition was selected from hundreds of submissions and the judging panel including celebrate d Bristol artist Beth Carter had the unenviable task of selecting the winner and runner up.
This year’s winner, UWE graduate Lizzy Drury’s triptych ‘Abandonment’ covered the entire back wall of the gallery. These stunning graphite drawings were visually spectacular and had an intriguing narrative. View have said they are looking forward to working with Lizzy next year as she makes new work for a show in the gallery (the winner’s prize).
