Ten percent of the artwork’s profits will go to the Bristol Heart Institute, which works to provide cardiac patients in the Southwest with comfortable accommodations and up-to-date care.

Bristol Patchwork, printed on white Somerset paper, was inspired by Bristol’s eclectic skyline. The etching depicts the Floating Harbour looking towards Clifton. The viewer peers across the water through a twisted mass of flowering brambles, the edge of the Clifton suspension bridge peeking out of the piece’s upper left corner.

“I especially love cityscapes; the mix of the old and the new stacked together in a messy patchwork,” says Godwin. “To me, Bristol provides a perfect example of this irregularity. My work is often inspired by imperfect things, be they buildings or natural objects.”

Godwin’s intricate and ethereal work forms an almost otherworldly vision of recognisable creatures and cities. Throughout his 16 years as a freelance designer, illustrator, conceptor and art director, Godwin’s work has caught the eye of high-profile brands such as the BBC, Rolls Royce and Pepsico.

“I often choose to work in drypoint etching, as this gives the softer, less predictable lines that are typical of my style,” says Godwin. “The initial sketch is done on paper, then etched onto plastic or metal plates. The plates are then inked and polished before being put through a printing press where the ink is transferred onto damp paper. Some of the prints are then treated with watercolour washes. Each print is unique as the process has many variables, a factor which I love.”

Other available works will include the wild house portrait Broken Home, the metropolitan cityscape Downtown, the crowded NYC Urban Sprawl and the dreamy cameo Winter Portrait. Prices will range from £60 to £80.
