Artist of the Month: Sonnes Art
This month’s artist is Sonnes Art, whose digital artwork Geometric Lion is exclusively available through our online shop. Limited edition prints of several other works are also available.
Anna Golec is the woman behind Sonnes Art. She’s a Polish-born artist who works with digital tools to create geometric art in unique and vibrant colours. Animals are often her point of focus.
“My artistic background started when I was a kid,” Anna says. “When I was very little I loved to paint. Painting is like meditation to me, I find it very personable which allows me to express myself. I am self-taught and for most of my life painting was just a hobby.
is needed now More than ever
“In the last four years, I have encouraged myself to become more professional in painting and drawing. When I moved to Bristol a few years ago I started painting shoes and clothes which I enjoyed a lot. About a year ago I discovered Adobe Illustrator and had my first attempt at graphic design.”
Anna grew up in Poland but has always loved Bristol. “Listening to Massive Attack, Dubkasm, watching Skins and admiring Bristol street art, I couldn’t imagine any other place for a new start,” she says. Anna now considers Bristol her home, and recently moved to Victoria Park from St George, where she had previously lived for four years.
She is a big fan of the Bristol art scene and is constantly inspired by the work she sees on her daily journeys. “Bristol has always had an amazing artistic vibe and history, thanks to the likes of Banksy, Inkie, Cheo, 3dom and many more who are recognisable worldwide. If you are driving through Bristol for the first time you can see beautiful murals and street art dotted around.”
Anna is selling three pieces through the Bristol24/7 shop: Geometric Lion, Geometric Toucan and Deer With Company.
Lion in particular is a piece near and dear to her heart. “Geometric Lion is very important to me as this was my first ever design using Adobe Illustrator, as well as my first attempt creating geometric art. Lions have always been a big inspiration to me as they manifest strength, stillness and confidence.”
Anna still continues her hobby of painting alongside her constantly-evolving digital work. “I enjoy the ability to create perfect art from a computer as you can always revert back to a previous version,” she says. “But I also appreciate the imperfections that are sometimes created with painting.”
Profits from artwork sold through Bristol24/7 will be donated to The Brandon Trust, who support adults and children with learning disabilities and autism. Keep up to date with Anna’s work at www.facebook.com/sonnesart.
