Banksy reveals more details behind self-shredding artwork

By Bristol24/7  Sunday Oct 7, 2018

Banksy recently stunned the art world when one of his most famous pieces self-shredded seconds after being sold at auction for more than one million pounds.

Now in a video published on his website and on Instagram, the Bristol-born street artist has revealed more details of how he pulled off the audacious stunt.

Introducing the video, Banksy wrote that a few years ago he had secretly built a shredder into the frame around this particular Girl With Balloon stencil in case it was ever put up for auction.

Writing on Instagram, Banksy quoted Picasso: “The urge to destroy is also a creative urge”

Conspiracy theories have already sprung up around how Banksy pulled off the prank at Sotheby’s on Friday evening, and whether the shredded work will now actually increase in value.
