Banksy to stage historic exhibition unveiling 25 years of artwork
An exhibition of work by Banksy will open in Glasgow on Sunday.
CUT & RUN: 25 years card labour spans 25 years, he told the Herald, and will feature many of the stencils he has used to create his graffiti work.
It’s the first time in 14 years that the elusive, Bristol-born artist has unveiled work in a solo exhibition.
is needed now More than ever
“I’ve kept these stencils hidden away for years, mindful they could be used as evidence in a charge of criminal damage,” Banksy said.
“But that moment seems to have passed, so now I’m exhibiting them in a gallery as works of art.
“I’m not sure which is the greater crime.”

Works included are Mobile Lovers, from St Philip’s in 2014, which depicts a hugging couple both looking at their phone screen over the other’s shoulder.
As well as this, on display are a police riot helmet adapted into a disco ball, the stab vest worn by Stormzy when he headlined Glastonbury festival and a detailed model explaining how Banksy managed to shred his Girl With Balloon painting during an auction at Sotheby’s in London in 2018.
The artist’s most recent solo show was Banksy versus Bristol Museum in 2009, where overnight the museum was transformed into a “menagerie of Unnatural History”, including fish fingers swimming in a gold-fish bowl, burnt out ice-cream van and a giant ice-cream melting on the roof.

CUT & RUN: 25 years card labour will be held at Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art. In a sign welcoming people to the venue, Banksy said that he brought the show there because his “favourite work of art in the UK” is right outside.
He wrote: “For anyone who isn’t aware – the statue out the front has had a cone on its head continuously for the past 40 odd years. Despite the best efforts of the council and the police, every time one is removed another takes its place.”
The exhibition is on from Sunday until August 28 and at weekends will stay open all night. There are plans for the exhibition to tour.
