Cactus replaces pineapple at corner of Castle Park

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Nov 27, 2018

Love them or loath them, Bristol’s yellow scaffolding pole adornments have become a familiar sight around the city in recent years.

The biggest and most recognisable of the lot has long been a pineapple in the corner of Castle Park near the former Bank of England building.

Duncan McKellar could be seen up a ladder on Tuesday morning creating the new piece.

Previous work from McKellar – whose other job is a tour guide around the streets of Bristol –  has included a Kinder Egg volcano on College Green and a series of mirrors along the US and Mexico border.

The pineapple itself grew out of a sculpture that McKellar made at the start of 2017 from discarded Christmas trees.
