Creative lockdown: Angus
Angus is part of the ongoing Bristol24/7 Creative Lockdown series, showcasing how people in Bristol have been getting arty under lockdown.
Prior to the Government lockdown, Bedminster-based street artist Angus had been creating coronavirus-themed artwork.
With coronavirus being in the news all day every day in the weeks leading up to the lockdown, Angus saw an opportunity to get a few pieces of art about the virus into the public domain, conveying a simple, easy to understand message.
is needed now More than ever
He started with a Nintendo’s Dr Mario in classic 1990s style.
“I thought the 90s retro Dr Mario would be the perfect image to make in ceramic tiles and give simple but effective advice to all ages: Wash your hands,” says Angus.

“The other piece was a beat-up rusty road sign that’s been in the back lane for years,” he says. “It was perfect for a simple stencil warning people about Covid-19.”
Until the lockdown is over, the artist is staying home and keeping safe: “It’s unlikely that I’ll be hitting the streets again whilst the nation is in lockdown but I’m busy in my studio creating news works of art for local and national galleries.
“I’m also planning new bigger and better pieces for the streets for the public to enjoy when we all get back to normal.”
