Creative lockdown: Ania Shrimpton
Ania Shrimpton is part of the ongoing Bristol24/7 Creative Lockdown series, showcasing how people in Bristol have been getting arty under lockdown.
Ania Shrimpton normally takes photos of take gigs, festivals and weddings. Under lockdown, the full time photographer has adapted her work, taking photos of people in their houses and posting them on Instagram via @lockdownbedminster2020.
‘I miss working as a photographer,” says Ania who is Polish but now lives in Bristol. “I always photograph people; that’s what I am most interested in.
is needed now More than ever
“I decided to start this project when I saw my neighbour wearing princess fancy dress and her housemate taking photographs it looked like they were having fun and it made me smile too. That’s when I thought that there is probably so much going on behind closed doors. I just wanted to show it, and perhaps make other people smile.”
Ania has been taking photos since lockdown began, but has now finished the project, saying: “I have been photographing people for seven weeks now and I feel this is the right moment to end it – but the project is still very alive as I have around 80 more pictures to share on my socials.

“When I started it on March 31, the atmosphere was very different compared to this week when the lockdown was eased by the Government.
“Back when I started we were only allowed to go out for one hour, that’s what was the most interesting for me to see how people are copying with those limitations. When we don’t have many options we start being more creative and try to get through this in different ways.”
The photographer has received many compliments on her photos, explaining how seeing her pictures every day made people happy and put a smile on faces.
