Creative lockdown: Emma Wreyford
Emma Wreyford is part of the ongoing Bristol24/7 Creative Lockdown series, showcasing how people in Bristol have been getting arty under lockdown.
Ordinarily, Emma Wreyford runs Chandos Artelier in Redland, which offers a creative space for children.
At the start of lockdown, Emma had to temporarily close the space, and instead started sending out art kits.

Inspired by the creativity of local children, she has been asking young people to collect and decorate tins, which she is planting with climbing plants.

“It’s still very much in process and of course it will be changing weekly as the plants grow and develop – very much as the children of the neighbourhood will still be growing and developing even though they’re not at school or seeing their friends,” Emma explains.
Over the next few months the plants will grow up an installation that Emma has built around a crinoline frame and mannequin held together with art materials.
“I was a costume maker for 20 years so the displays in my window are sometimes based on this mannequin,” says Emma. “This time, I’ve got the neighbourhood involved too.
