By Sarski Anderson  Wednesday Nov 1, 2023

In Gallery 5 of the Arnolfini this winter, the Jerwood Collection is presenting a series of works based around the idea of home, refuge and movement.

Called Dream and Refuge, the collection is brought together in tandem with UWE Bristol’s MA Curating programme, and features work in an eclectic array of styles.

The artists on show include Mike Silva, Michael Armitage, Tunji Adeniyi-Jones, Paula Rego, Vanessa Bell,  Rose Wylie, Bridget Riley and Halima Cassell.

From carved sculptural bowls to vibrant prints of dancing figures, still lifes and dreamscapes, the chosen pieces reflect the notion of exploring creativity for enjoyment.

2023 represents the 30th anniversary of the Jerwood Collection, which continues to celebrate modern British art.

This collaboration with Arnolfini is the first of a three-year programme of working to share the collection with a wider audience.

Dream and Refuge: works from the Jerwood Collection is at Arnolfini from November 4-January 21 2024 (Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-6pm). The exhibition is free; donations welcome. More information is available at www.arnolfini.org.uk.
