GIRLS Camera Club to present debut exhibition at Strange Brew
The GIRLS Camera Club collective was founded by Delphi Ross and Alice Farrington in November 2021.
The group is made up of eight female and non-binary analogue photographers from different places and backgrounds, all sharing “the common need to express themselves, articulate moments and find meaning” through their art.
On October 13, they will be launching ALPHA, their first collective exhibition at Strange Brew, asking the questions: ‘Who are we? What does or doesn’t make us women? ‘What is our place in the world?’

In their very different ways, the images explore identities, relationships, and inner and outer worlds of the eight members.
“From introspective self portraits and tender views of a mother to energetic point and shoot snapshots of Bristol life; we will be showing you what we see through our personal lens,” they say.
For Rozi Lane, sharing work in this way has been very empowering. “GIRLS Camera Club has enabled us to collectively encourage, critique and learn from each other, but most of all to be brave and daring with our ideas”.

Tess Clarke-Sieling has been motivated by regular meet-ups “to shoot new things, and new people, on new film”; whereas Sinead, who makes work as @pointandshootbaby, reflects on the unique and brilliant people making up the collective: “When we meet something magic happens and I come away feeling warm and happy”.
Since their formation, GIRLS Camera Club has been overwhelmed by support from the Bristol film photography scene. St Pauls Community Centre provided them “the space to meet, look at photo books and eat party rings”; Jack’s Lab helped with technical questions, developing and scanning photos, and Bread & Butter and Permajet brought their images to life in print.
The debut exhibition will be a chance to celebrate the community they are helping to foster. The ALPHA launch night will feature raffle prizes, an analogue photo booth from Jack’s Lab, and music from Bristol-based Longthrow Radio, with DJ Honeybear, The Jellyfish Project, DJ Major and sadsugar.
