Immersive Van Gogh experience set to arrive in Bristol

By Betty Woolerton  Monday Feb 21, 2022

A collision of traditional art and innovative technology promises to take visitors on an awe-inspiring journey through painting come spring.

Set to land in Bristol in June, the travelling Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a 20,000 square foot light and sound spectacle depicting the Dutch artist’s post-impressionist work in incredible detail.

Promising “360-degree digital projections, a one-of-a-kind virtual reality interactive and an atmospheric light and sound show”, the exhibition invites attendees to be “completely immersed in the works of art around you, and feel the shift in reality as you dive deep into the world created by Van Gogh’s brush strokes”.

With light installations set against a soundtrack of classical music, visitors will be engulfed by life-animating floors and walls flooded with some of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings.

In addition to the exhibition’s central area, the experience includes separate galleries that chronicle his life, technique and influence.

Immersive experiences featuring Van Gogh’s artistic masterpieces have sprung up in cities around the world in various forms, dazzling visitors in London, Paris, New York, Miami and beyond.

Soon to be in Bristol, the “family-friendly” exhibition will open in June with its secret location yet to be disclosed. Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, February 22 at midday.

The whole experience takes just over an hour and ticket prices start at £21.90 for adults and £14.00 for children.

Opening hours will be from 10am to 7pm on weekdays, and 9am to 9pm on weekends.
