Kissing the NHS goodbye in Stokes Croft
The Carriageworks on Stokes Croft is a frequent canvas for political art and the latest mural has captured the imagination more acutely than ever as fears for the place of the NHS in a transatlantic trade deal grow.
Sue Kilroe, who organised the mural and is a member of pressure group Protect Our NHS, said: “We’re at a tipping point, this is a very dangerous moment for the future of health services.
“The reason this mural is so important for people to see is because, as part of her speedy trade deal with Donald Trump, Theresa May offered up our public services.
is needed now More than ever
“Health provision is a big business, and lots of American companies desperately want to take a cut from our NHS.”
Painted by Bristol graffiti artists Object and DNT, the mural took three days to prepare.
“The picture of them holding hands really made an impact,” Object told Bristol24/7. “We wanted to blend that with this idea that our prime minister wants a deal at any cost.”
It was painted in one day in the space which had previously carried a mural of Donald Trump and Boris Johnson kissing.
“It’s a continuation, it’s a tradition,” Sue explained
Next to the mural are large boards Protect Our NHS particularly want passers-by to see, with coaches being organised from Bristol to take protesters to a national demonstration in London on March 4.
