Graffiti hub Kop & Hibbert returns
October 2019 sees the return of Bristol street art gallery Kop & Hibbert.
The K& H story began in 2010, when Paul Villalba and the latev Matt Hibbert, aka Mibzy, started their new venture King Of Paint: a focal point in the centre of the city, just round the corner from the UK’s largest decriminalised painting zone, Stokes Croft.
On the surface KOP was a spray paint outlet and gallery space, but it fast turned into a hub for artists, run by artists, dedicated to giving the city’s scene a much-needed space in which to exhibit, meet, hang out, draw and paint. The gallery expanded, showcasing the likes of Banksy, Inkie, Cheo, David Walker, and even supplying the artists at Bristol’s huge street art festival See No Evil. KOP also hosted exhibitions by some of the world’s most renowned street artists.

In the summer of 2013, however, Mibzy became noticeably unwell. With his health taking a turn for the worse, Matt found out he had a brain tumour and within a week was preparing himself for brain surgery. After life-changing surgery at BRI, the months that followed proved a testing time. Although remaining positive with his wicked sense of humour throughout, Mibzy passed away on July 14, 2014.
After a break, KOP&Hibbert now returns as high-end contemporary art specialists, housing originals and prints from the world’s leading artists, now nestled in the heart of Clifton Village – for a limited time only.
Kop & Hibbert reopens at 70 Princess Victoria Street, BS8 4DD, with a launch evening on Thursday October 3, 6-10pm, and will then be open Thur-Sun 12-6pm. For more info, visit www.kopandhibbert.com
