Local artist Geetlush hosts ‘Feminist Paintalong’ and ‘Crappy Craft Club’ sessions at Bristol Improv Theatre
The Bristol Improv Theatre is a dedicated home of improv, running regular drop-in sessions, workshops and courses for budding fans of the genre, as well as hosting regular nights for This Is Your Musical, Tales of Adventure, the improvised game show The Bish Bosh Bash, and the improv troupe Up The Antics.
Perhaps less well-known are its monthly arts and crafts workshops, hosted by local feminist artist Karen Slater, otherwise known as Geetlush.
“My feminism drives everything I do and I enjoy nothing more than working with groups of women where I can create a safe space for them to relax and enjoy a creative activity,” she says. “It is an absolute privilege to be alongside women when conversation is flowing and the sharing of stories begins.”
is needed now More than ever
At a Feminist Paintalong, participants are promised a relaxed and sociable Saturday afternoon with like-minded people, using acrylic paint to discover their inner artist, while learning a little human biology along the way.
Help is on hand, and painters will be given step-by-step guidance, although invited to take their time with their creations.
Crappy Craft Club sessions are designed to reconnect people with their sense of creativity, play, and fun as they immerse themselves in the mindful joy of making.
“There are no expectations of perfection here,” organisers say. “Doing your own thing is always encouraged and Geetlush will be on hand to help make your creative dreams a reality.”
Across all the workshops, all materials are included, and no experience is necessary.
There are upcoming Feminist Paintalong sessions (18+) at Bristol Improv Theatre on August 5 and September 2 at 2.30pm
Crappy Craft Club will run on August 19 and September 23 at 2pm.
