Luke Jerram’s Moon takes to the water for the first time

By Martin Booth  Thursday Jul 25, 2019

Museum of the Moon, Luke Jerram’s seven-metre diameter model of the Moon, was inspired soon after the artist moved to Bristol almost 20 years ago and noticed the huge tidal variation as he cycled over the New Cut.

On Wednesday evening, the Moon took to the water of the Floating Harbour near the Cottage pub to a surround sound composition soundtrack created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.

The unannounced appearance of the artwork was a one-off but Jerram told Bristol24/7 that he hopes to be able to take the Moon elsewhere in the docks this summer.

Jerram’s model of Earth will also be on display in the Great Hall of the Wills Memorial Building from August 16 to 18.

The Moon was pulled around the harbour by a rowing boat
