After beginning her creative journey as a photographer, Lauren then decided that she wanted to pursue her interest in sewing. What adds to the originality of her handmade handbags is that she taught herself how to make them.
“I created my first range “Plume”, which was really successful and led the way for many more collections” she says.
All of her designs are inspired by her love of beautiful fabrics, which can be seen from the bold patterns that cover each of her handbags.
“A lot of my inspiration comes from fabrics and designs I discover on my travels, most recently in Bali where I sourced many beautiful materials, and last year in Japan which inspired me to create a collection using Japanese fabrics” Lauren explains.
Lauren has worked in Bristol for the past two years, starting out in her studio near Easton. From there, Maybe Mabel began to expand and her first retail shop was opened in the beautiful Victorian Clifton Arcade in July 2016.
The arts and design scene in Bristol is what first attracted Lauren to move to the city,
“Bristol definitely has the best creative scene that I have experienced” she says,
“There are so many opportunities here in the creative industry and I find that customers really appreciate handmade crafts and want to support local businesses. Bristol is full of diversity and anything seems to be possible!”
Lauren has crafted a new coin purse, with a vibrant blue wave pattern, exclusively for our online shop. As well as looking beautiful, Lauren’s design is also practical and the purse is ideal for storing change and cards, with a zipped pouch which can be used as a pencil case or to store make up items.
A range of Lauren’s other work is now on sale too, including a recycled leather make up bag and a wristlet clutch which can double-up as a 10” tablet case. All of these items are marked by her intricate, hand drawn designs and bold use of colour and with every purchase you will receive a Bristol canvas tote bag
The maker has chosen for profits from these bags to be donated to Unseen, a charity campaigning against modern day slavery and human trafficking.
(Leather shade may vary on all items)
