Martina Glastonbury presents her latest solo exhibition at Centrespace Gallery
Swedish painter Martina Glastonbury is based in Devon at her Dartmoor studio. Her latest exhibition See through is at Centrespace Gallery from March 11.
Glastonbury is passionate about creating work that inspires and gives the viewer a sense of peace and connection to an inner power. She describes her paintings as being often “soft, feminine, and mysterious” in nature.
She likes to illustrate the connections that go unseen between ourselves and the natural world, whether it is figurative or abstract work.
is needed now More than ever
“Before painting, I like to collect myself in a meditative state,” she says. “It is about slowing down and becoming attentive to what I do. In this state, I enjoy the process of painting much more.
For Glastonbury, silence is an integral part of her working day – allowing her to immerse herself in nature walks, or being alone in her studio – and she lets her work unfold in its own time.

“My reflections and reactions to what I paint are smoother and more intuitive. At the same time, I take the time to appreciate each moment. It is about being aware of and present with the painting.”
She describes this process as “contemplative mindfulness”, which she admits, can sound serious, “but in reality, it is often a joyful and playful experience”.
The work exhibited at See through will be a selection of Glastonbury’s recent figurative and abstract paintings and drawings, exploring “what lies beneath the surface as experienced by Martina’s inner world and her relationship to different subjects”.
