By Emily Valentine  Thursday Oct 26, 2023

Ceramics artist Rhi Jarman is looking forward to meeting a new community of makers at a brand new studio in Windmill Hill.

The founder of Pipistrelle Design is one of many celebrating the launch of the artist-led community workspace known as Mudworks, which is hosting an official opening party on Friday.

Whether you’re seeking to hone your skills on the wheel or try pottery for the first time, the studio on Bartley Street seeks to offer a welcoming space for all.

Mudworks will be offering membership for people who want to carry on with pottery for a period of time.

The membership includes access to the studio at any time, allowing people to go in whenever they want to create and not have to reserve a place.

The membership also includes; priority of a kiln firing service, access to four-wheels, three kilns and all equipment, as well as access to the kitchen and car parking, communal work space, and peer support from a group.

Alternatively, dedicated sessions can be booked.

Speaking about the new studio, one member said: “I think it’ll be really nice to get to know the other people and we now have the opportunity to meet new people in the community.

“It’s nice to have a big studio in this part of Bristol, because there wasn’t one before so that’s nice and exciting and it allows new possibilities to create new things.”

Another member added: “It’ll be nice to get to know people and to get our work seen, and to see what everyone produces and how different we are.

“I can see that everyone will do something different and that is the best part of working in a shared studio.”
