New main venue revealed for Upfest 2022

By Martin Booth  Monday Dec 20, 2021

Upfest is taking over a new area of Bedminster for its main venue as it celebrates its 15th anniversary.

Europe’s largest street art festival is due to return to south Bristol on May 28 and 29, with organisers promising that next year’s festival will be “bigger and better than ever”.

Mural painting will begin from May 5, while the festival weekend will see hundreds of artists painting live with festival hubs at the Tobacco Factory and Ashton Gate Stadium.

For the first time in 2022, the festival will take over Greville Smyth Park as its main venue with music and live painting across the weekend.

It comes after a planned music festival in the park, Greville Smyth Live, had to be moved to the Lloyds Amphitheatre; with 2021’s Upfest replaced by a project which saw 75 artists paint 75 walls across BS3.

Upfest co-founder, Steve Hayles, said: “It feels great to be bringing the festival back in all its glory, especially for its 15th year anniversary.

“2022 will see a new format to the festival with three weeks of street painting then a weekend with a true festival feel at Greville Smyth Park.

“We can’t wait to bring the fans of the festival together again for an incredible weekend of live painting.
