New mural celebrates women’s empowerment
A new mural in Southville is an ode to female empowerment.
The mural in Dean Lake Skate Park was created by Bristol Mural Collective, a women-led street art collective, known for their guerilla style painting get-togethers across Bristol.
Headed up by artist Rosa ter Kuile, known as @RTiiiKA on social media, the group joined together on Sunday to paint their murals ahead of International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8.
is needed now More than ever
The brightly coloured piece covers one wall of the Southville skate park, and features murals from a number of Bristol street artists such as Natasha Sweeting (@natasha_sweeting_art), @jojo_stickers, and Giuliana Terran (@giulianaterranartist).

One mural by @giulianaterranartist is based on a life drawing they had previously shared on Instagram, which was deemed “sexually explicit” by the platform.
Recreating the work at Dean Lane, they wrote on social media: “This is Art not Porn. I’m so angry with what’s been happening to the life drawing community. I created this piece yesterday in Bristol.
“A talented group of female artists @bristolmuralcollective meet up every now and then to paint street art and graffiti together and I was lucky enough to join them.
“I hope this draws some attention and the message is loud and clear. STOP CENSORING ART!”
A demonstration is planned in Bristol on Wednesday to protest for women’s rights and protection against violence.
