Art / Mother's Day
‘Phone Your Mum Back’ posters appear in Bristol
Baker & Borowski is an artist-curator collaboration between sculptor and placemaking specialist Catherine Borowski, and painter and music producer Lee Baker.
They are dedicated to bringing “unexpected eruptions of art” into the everyday urban landscape.
In the runup to Mother’s Day on March 27, they have launched a nationwide campaign of billboards and posters called PHONE YOUR MUM BACK, featuring an artwork that celebrates the power of maternal relationships.
is needed now More than ever
The posters are visible in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Brighton and Bristol, where you can see them on Upper York Street / Stokes Croft and Stapleton Road.
The central impetus for the artwork is to encourage people to pick up the phone to our mums, as Mother’s Day approaches. The project comes after the death of Catherine’s mother in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, in 2016, and the calls she missed to tell her of her mother’s death.

“We know not everyone has an amazing relationship with their mum, but we are saying that if you can repair and make peace with your mum, give it a go,” says Borowski.
“For Lee, this is a response to years of not phoning his mum back but for me, it’s knowing how it feels when your mum suddenly isn’t there.”
Prints of the artworks can be bought at flyingleaps, and Baker & Borowski will be donating 100 per cent of the profits from sales of the first 100 prints to The Loss Project, a social enterprise that uses creativity to help communities with grief and loss.

Baker & Borowski are known for SKIP Gallery, their ongoing collaborative artwork offering the chance to make “artistic interventions in unexpected places” using a modified skip.
PHONE YOUR MUM BACK launches on the fifth anniversary of Baker & Borowski’s SKIP Gallery piece, Na, I Don’t Want None of That Again, which pays tribute to both artists’ mothers, and is a further exploration of Borowski and Baker’s own maternal relationships.
