Street pianos start appearing across Bristol
Some of the first Play Me, I’m Yours pianos have been delivered to locations across Bristol. The Paintworks on Bath Road is host to one decorated by graffiti artist Sepr, which is already in situ next to the Tube Diner ahead of the official launch of the project on Thursday, August 17.
Play Me, I’m Yours is the creation of Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram, whose studio is also in the Paintworks.
Having travelled all over the world since its inception in 2008, the project is returning to Bristol for the first time in almost a decade.
is needed now More than ever
Each of the 18 pianos to be set up in Bristol have been customised and decorated by local artists, with anyone able to play the instruments until they are all given new homes after September 7.
On the project’s opening day, there will be three launch events for individual pianos.
At 10am, the SS Great Britain will host a Victorian-themed launch event in Brunel Square, just beside the ship, where two of the SS Great Britain’s volunteer pianists will be playing in full Victorian garb.
Later on, at 3.30pm, Knowle West Media Centre will unveil their piano with several performances from local pianists and a ‘free keys’ session where anyone can get up and play, not to mention the promise of tea and cake.

The last launch of the day will take place at North Street’s Tobacco Factory from 6-8pm. Anyone attending the sing-along community jam session will have the chance to exchange sterling for Bristol Pounds, who are sponsoring the Tobacco Factory’s piano.
All the pianos will be on display until September 7. Find a map of all the pianos and more information at www.streetpianos.com/bristol2017
