Stuart Kalakovis: Dismal Incantation

A welcome return to the Here Gallery for illustrator Stuart Kolakovic. The exhibition will showcase Stuart’s darker, personal work, created under the pseudonym “Herman Inclusus”, which explores his interest in Eastern Orthodox Iconography, medieval illuminated manuscripts and the Gothic narrative. This show marks the release of Stuart’s debut self-published horror comic “Dismal Incantation”, and will feature an array of Giclee prints, screenprints, and wooden icons.

Cheba: Beyond the Pale Blue Dot

A pioneer of poster and sticker culture, Cheba began plastering the streets with his striking yet simplistic characters in the early 2000’s. Shortly after picking up a spray can, Cheba quickly became addicted to painting the city’s landscape and has been a long-standing figure in his hometown of Bristol’s thriving street art culture.

Anna Franceschini: Laws of Attraction

As seen in Bristol24/7 magazine Issue 1, Anna Franceschini harnesses the illusionist potential of ‘motion pictures’ to animate the inanimate. To work her magic, she typically starts by isolating or framing a single object, device, machine or process, which she films  until it takes on a life of its own, freed from its functional context to become an object of poetic contemplation.

Willem De Rooij

Dutch artist Willem de Rooij works in a variety of media, including film and installation. While he’s interested in the beauty of images and materials, he is also aware of the impact of context and the institutional framing of art works. Though sometimes de Rooij’s approach to political meaning is more direct. The installation Index: Riots, Protest, Mourning and Commemoration is an impressive selection of global political struggles, which also invites also a closer look into the mechanics of representation: how do people present themselves “in protest”?
