Art / 163 annual open exhibition

RWA Autumn Exhibition: call for entries

By Steve Wright  Monday Jul 27, 2015

The Royal West of England Academy is once again inviting artists to submit their work for consideration to its most popular annual show.

Now in its 163rd year, the RWA’s Annual Open Exhibition (Oct 4-Nov 29) allows regional, national and international artists to exhibit their work alongside other renowned names in British art, such as last year’s invited artist Sir Peter Blake RWA.

Submissions are welcome from painters, sculptors, architects, photographers, printmakers and moving-image artists. Entries are also encouraged from all ages, including students and emerging artists.

RWA President Janette Kerr says: “We are looking for pieces that sing and talk to us – that amuse, provoke and excite, that have a poetry and freshness about them, that have a visual impact which makes a work stand out – as well as demonstrating a high level of skill in execution. Not much then! But we hope that the work we select will offer our audience a fresh and current insight into contemporary art practice.”

Last year’s Open welcomed over 15,000 visitors, with over 100 works sold from the 640 on display. Artists are encouraged to submit a maximum of three recent works via a dedicated website, and the first round of selection takes place online – with a final results day at the Academy in September.

All submissions must be made online via www.rwa.org.uk by August 19. Artists are encouraged to submit recent work (produced within the last three years), and all works must be for sale. Maximum three works per applicant.
