RWA Secret Postcard Auction: artworks on view now
RWA’s Secret Postcard Auction fundraiser returns on Thursday, May 25, offering collectors and first-time buyers the chance to purchase unique work by leading figures from the art and cultural worlds.
So, how does it work? Participants can place bids on around 250 ‘postcards’ – original pieces of art (14 x 19 cm), kept anonymous until sold – and take part in the final auction. Bidding on each work starts at just £40. Each artwork is signed on the back, so buyers either take a guess on which artworks have been created by big-name artists, or simply bid on the works that take their fancy.

A selection of the works submitted for this year’s Auction
Previous postcard artists include Antony Gormley, Grayson Perry, Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. Contributions for this year’s Auction have already been received from Turner Prize nominee Hurvin Anderson plus Jeremy Deller, Sir James Dyson, Gilbert & George, Maggi Hambling, Kurt Jackson, Andrew Lanyon, Richard Long, Alice Maher and Alison Wilding among others, with more on their way from other leading names. A full list of contributing artists is on display at www.rwa.org.uk/whats-on/secret-postcard-auction and you can also see the works on the RWA’s Flickr page.
is needed now More than ever
The cards are now on display for silent bidding and tickets for the Auction itself are on sale from the RWA website for £5, which includes a welcome drink and nibbles. The last two years’ auctions have sold out well in advance of the event, so early booking is advised. All proceeds raised by the sale of the works will go towards supporting the RWA.
