Social Scaffolding Art Collective bring south west tour to Bristol
A trio of south-west based emerging artists, Alyson Minkley, Juliet Duckworth and Lou Baker have formed a collective called Social Scaffolding, currently touring the south west.
The group are all recent graduates of Bath Spa University – and working together, they share a common goal to engage “new and diverse audiences with dynamic, socially engaged, interactive and immersive art”.
Their tour – funded by Arts Council England – makes use of empty town centre shops and brings in audience members of all ages, including school and community groups.

Together, they are invited to experience and participate in sculptural, light, sound and textile-based installations, prompting creativity, conversation, and connection.
“Normally in an art gallery there are signs saying ‘do not touch the artworks’,” say the trio. “Here, you’re invited not only to touch but to take part.

Lou Baker, Social Knitwork
“Climb into Alyson Minkley’s suspended, cocoon-like installation and add some stitching to its canvas surfaces; become a living sculpture by wearing Lou baker’s bright, quirky knitted sculptures; or wonder as you wander around Juliet Duckworth’s installation and help her weave her human-sized nest.”
Visitor feedback to date has praised the innovation and therapeutic value of the exhibition, calling it a safe space for creativity, interaction or simply ‘being’.

Social Scaffolding Art Collective will be at The Galleries, Broadmead (on the ground floor, opposite Boswells Café), from July 15-30 at 11am-4pm Thursday to Sunday. The tour will then proceed to Yeovill and Swindon into the autumn. Follow the group @social.scaffolding.artists on Insta or visit www.socialscaffolding.art for more information.
