Svalbard Company presents: Braintown at PRSC

By Sarski Anderson  Thursday Dec 8, 2022

Formed of alumni of DOCH, the former name of a university dance and contemporary circus school in Stockholm, Svalbard Company is comprised of four international performers: Ben Smith (UK), Alexis Akrovatakis (Greece), Tom Brand (Germany) and Santiago Ruiz (Spain).

Their 2016 debut show All Genius All Idiot brought them global recognition, with shows performed in over 30 countries to date.

Since 2020 the company has been focused on the development of multi-disciplinary and immersive site-specific experiences, bringing in the talents of collaborating performers and creatives along the way.

The most recent of these co-productions, Braintown, is now coming to PRSC, for a packed weekend programme of live art, circus, electronic music, performance, lectures, film screenings, workshops and improvisation.

It’s designed to be an event that explores the frontiers along which performance meets science, technology and art, bringing international artists together to create and share their work.

The immersive and transdiciplinary art experience L.A.B. will open the event on December 16, with the Braintown Gala (for which participants are requested to dress to impress, and don smart attire, PVC/leather and/or preferably black clothes).

There will also be performance art, a live score from Gak and an accompanying exhibition of artwork from contributors including Deadbeat Films, Svalbard and Animal Religion.

Circus Future on December 17 ties together a triple bill of UK premiere circus performances, featuring Matt Pasquet in Only Bones 1.9, Marie-Andree Robitaillea in Multiverse, and Moon Ribas & Quim Girón in Fenòmen.

Lectures, workshops and a film screening are planned for December 18, before the event wraps up with creative play and improvisation, in a ‘cross arts jam’ the following day, which Svalbard Company are hopeful will round off a unique weekend programme.
