Art / International Women's Day
Which places in Bristol should be named after women?
A Bristol artist is calling out for recommendations on which locations in the city should be named after women.
Zoe Gibbons, a mixed media artist and designer, is asking the public to nominate women who have made a difference in the city for her latest textile art installation called ‘Women’s Threads of Bristol’.
The artwork, which is being created in light of International Women’s Day (IWD), aims to create a visual illustration of places in Bristol that are named after women, including roads, buildings, parks, blue plaques and murals.
is needed now More than ever
Zoe’s artwork will highlight women and what they have done to earn recognition in Bristol.
Along with recommendations on places and nominations for women, Zoe is also calling out for donations of unwanted cones of wool to be included as part of the Bristol visual mapping project.
Zoe, whose work visualises heritage stories and explores connection to places using salvaged and upcycled materials, will be creating the artwork during a residency at The Vestibules at City Hall on Saturday, March 11 and also from Tuesday, March 14 until Friday, March 17.
The artist is welcoming people to pop down to The Vestibules to get involved in the project which is part of Bristol Women’s Voice’s celebrations for IWD.
If you have any wool or any nominations, you can get in touch with Zoe at [email protected].
