Wildlife Photographer of The Year
The world-renowned Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is returning to Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and will be open to visitors from Saturday 29 November 2014 to Sunday 22 February. Returning to Bristol Museum & Art Gallery after a successful run at M Shed, the exhibition aims to showcase outstanding creativity and photographic skills, inspiring wonder at the natural world, and highlighting the need for wildlife conservation in audiences of all ages.
Now in its 50th year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition provides a global showcase of extraordinary images celebrating the drama, beauty and splendour of the natural world with astonishing, creative and occasionally humorous wildlife photography. The exhibition represents the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography and Bristol will be the first city to host the exhibition after the Natural History Museum in London.
The annual competition is owned by the Natural History Museum and BBC Worldwide. Judged by an international jury of photography experts, the images, submitted by professional and amateur photographers, were selected for their creativity, artistry and technical complexity. The winners of the internationally acclaimed competition were announced last month and will be on display alongside the category finalists.
is needed now More than ever
This year, judges were searching for images that upheld high ethical standards, whilst also being technically and artistically brilliant. A range of expertise on the panel ensured that judges were also on the lookout for unique or unusual behaviour and species that would be fresh to the competition, as well as the ordinary made extraordinary.
Vivienne Bennett, Interim Head of Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives, said:
“We are proud to bring the Wildlife Photography of the Year exhibition to Bristol again, especially with Bristol Green Capital 2015 just around the corner. Each year these spectacular and dramatic images draw visitors from far and wide and inspire thousands of people.
“I want to thank Darwin Holiday and Leisure Resorts for sponsoring this important exhibition and Bristol Water for working closely with us as our Education Sponsor. We are very grateful for their support.”
