Winter art fair coming to Stokes Croft

By Lowie Trevena  Friday Nov 20, 2020

The People’s Republic of Stokes Croft (PRSC) will this winter bring together 40 artists as part of its annual winter art fair.

A celebration of Bristol creativity, the People’s Art Fair Winter Edition will see work from artwork from established local artists and fresh talent alike from December 4-20.

Hosted online, and at the PRSC if lockdown permits, artists will exhibit everything from metal work and paper sculpture to collage and glass painting.

Other artists exhibiting include street artist Mr. Sleven, mixed media artist Lisa Travers, painter Annie Rose and collager Bev Milward.

Young talent including Charlotte Harris and Kay, who were spotted by PRSC during a graffiti skills course with Creative Youth Network, will also be exhibiting their work for the first time.

“In the bleak mid-winter with Bristol in lockdown, a global pandemic rolling through our communities, Brexit on the near horizon, economic collapse looming from every side, a Tory government barely holding the country together and the cold nights drawing in we all need to bring a little colour and magic back into our lives,” says PRSC’s Lisa Furness.

She adds: “The closed doors of lockdown this year have hidden a frenetic world of quiet creativity, and these creations are now ready to spill out into the world. As always, the People’s Art Fair brings you a cornucopia of visual art to tempt every taste and temperament.”

If Bristol is able to host in-person events in December, a physical exhibition opening will be held on Friday, December 4 at 6pm, and then open from 2pm to 6pm between December 5 and 20.

“With pieces celebrating everyday beauty; or exploring issues of race or gender; challenging power dynamics; or capturing a fantasy on canvas, this show is guaranteed to offer up something for everyone,” Lisa adds.

“The crew at the PRSC has been working hard behind the scenes to launch the People’s Art Fair online so now you can visit without getting off the sofa – so no excuses for missing the show!”
