Award winning spoken word night comes to Bristol
A major new spoken word night is coming to Bristol to further enhance the vibrant scene on offer in the city.
Award winning night, That’s What She Said, which champions writing and performances by women, is starting monthly events in Bristol.
The night has been running in London for over three years, and is the brainchild of For Books’ Sake – a volunteer run, not-for-proft organisation that has been supporting women’s writing for over eight years.
is needed now More than ever
“We knew That’s What She Said was going to be special when Salena Godden headlined our first event in London, three and a half years later we’re pinching ourselves,” says Jane Bradley, founder and Director of For Books’ Sake.
That’s What She Said was named ‘biggest spoken word night for women’ by the Evening Standard, shortlisted for Best Spoken Word Night in the UK at the 2017 Saboteur Awards, had two sell out events at Edinburgh Fringe, and runs and hosts regular late night literary salons at the Royal Albert Hall.
Host of That’s What She Said in Bristol, Burning Eye Books co-editor, Bridget Hart, says: “The spoken word community in Bristol is thriving, and by launching That’s What She Said, we’re offering a space that specifically showcases womxn and non-binary folk, which in any community is vital. Expect fierce, feminist truth featuring established and emerging writers with a mix of performance, poetry, storytelling, slam and more.”
Bristol’s That’s What She Said launches on October 16 and continues monthly on the third Tuesday of the month at Loco Klub. October’s event features Sophia Blackwell, who will be launching her new collection The Other Woman (published by Burning Eye Books), with support from Josephine Corcoran, Janey McCloud and Rowena Knight plus an open mic.
